Take the R and the H, put them together like DK. I think they shouldn't be able to be hit by attacks as they don't participate in many moves. They'll help you with getting timing on your moves down, and participating in a select few attacks. Rather, they're two partners in a style similar to Nana. I don't like the idea of them being playable, however in this case you're not really taking direct control of them. So now that why Rhythm Girl is out of the way, it's time to say "what's the deal with Chorus Kids?" Chorus Kids are a popular pick due to them being "leaked" for Smash 4. I think being on the box of two games and the cartridge of one is pretty cool, alongside just being seemingly the face of the series. She doesn't make an appearance at ALL for the DS title outside of promotional artwork. Marshal is the face of the Japanese Wii box.

She can very clearly alter her appearance drastically, it's not too much of a stretch that all the girls appearing in the artworks are the same girl. Very stylish, she will appear in various clothes. She's on the arcade cabinet, featured pretty prominently. This game was also re-released on the Wii title, AND the 3DS title. Here she is in her own game, Tap Trial (GBA). She's on the cartridge of the first game.
